    Calm Between Storms

I've been a subscriber of several Informa Telecoms newsletters for many years now: I got a good laugh (and then shed a tear) when I read a story this week about the SILENCE following the big show in Barcelona. Of course, I like every other sane person in the wireless industry had turned off their mobile in protest of technlogy - come on, we all have to unplug once in a while. But the calm is about to go away. CEBIT - the show that everyone loves (there are always dozens of lust-worthy gadgets unveiled at the German mega show) and loves to hate (we're all tired: CES, 3GSM/MWC) and wish we could just fast forward to CTIA - or at least cut one of the big pony shows.

But I lament in vain - the week of calm is all but gone. As always there are some cool products in store for both CEBIT and CTIA - several marriages of cool hardware companies and covetous consumer brands are in the works... not to mention a big announcement coming from the world of Windows Mobile.

Anyway, goodbye to the calm and back to the grind (admittedly, it's usually a pretty fun grind).
